10 Questions to ask before choosing a Realtor®
- How long have you been a Realtor®? Although a new agent could be great at what they do, with a seasoned Realtor® you're getting years of experience and years of lessons they've already learned.
- What do you wish all homebuyers knew? As your potential Realtor® they are there to guide you through the real estate process, you want someone who can help you avoid potential mistakes whether that is being house poor, or not having proper representation!
- How many real estate transactions have you been a part of in the last year? A Realtor® who does 20+ transactions a year has seen more than someone who does 1-2 a year. The more deals they have been a part of, the more experience they have to work for you!
- Are you licensed in all areas of real estate? There are different areas of real estate and not all Realtors® are licensed in all of those areas. If they are licensed in all areas; residential, commercial, and agriculture you will be good no matter what you are doing!
- Is this your full time job? It's best to manage expectations up front. If you want someone who's available morning and night you should choose a full time agent to represent you.
- What do your past clients say about you? You want to work with someone who has a history of caring for the clients. Read their google reviews to see what other people's experience has been like with them.
- How often will we communicate? Again, there is no right answer with this one, but rather what makes you feel comfortable as a buyer!
- What is the length of our agreement? Realtors® can have you sign either an exclusive or non-exclusive agreement, this will determine the length of the agreement and your rights throughout the transaction (I recommend only signing a non-exclusive).
- What fees will you charge? As a buyer, the seller pays real estate fees so it should be $0, however it's best to get confirmation from them.
- What's your favourite part about the real estate process? Some people love negotiating, while others love spending hours online trying to find the diamond in the rough. This will tell you more about how they'll work for you.
